We're still waiting to find out what the City Council here will vote on next week. The employees seem to have approved the offered contract overwhelmingly, so it looks like furloughs are just around the corner. At least it appears that we won't be losing hours, which was a concern. A number of other systems around the state are closing and cutting back, so it's not just Orange.

If you glanced at SHOT'S SHACK you'll see that I took in IRON MAN 2 and recommend it, if not highly, than certainly for fans of super-hero movies. Also, think that horror fans might want to check out PARANORMAL ACTIVITY if they haven't already. I'm one of the last among my friends to finally watch.

Unless something changes in the next week or so, Donna and I will be doing the four-night Carnival Cruise to Ensenada, Mexico & Catalina Island again. Just going to take an inside cabin and skip the formal nights. Be nice to relax for a few days.

Hope all is well with all of you. Keep an eye on Facebook, where I tend to drop in more often than I do here.

Hey Steve,

Queens Library is going through the ringer too. All librarians hired 2004 and later have been given lay-off notices. All clerks hired 1999 and later the same thing. Interestingly that Customer Service Specialist that was created a few years ago...remember? Completely spared laid-off notices. What do you think of that?

Whoa! That would have meant that I would have gotten a lay-off notice, since I started in mid-'04. Not that I think I could have lasted with QPL another four anyway. :-)

Personally, I don't think that's right. If you are going to lay-off it should be strictly by seniority. Of course, you know this means that QPL will bring back fewer Librarians when the lay-offs end.

Be curious if the Library Assistants(what the Customer Service Specialists used to be called at BPL) have been spared there. I still know a couple of folks working in Brooklyn (most I worked with have retired) and should ask.
